Alphabet Words Song - A for Apple B for...

Post by Lorina » Sat Oct 01, 2011 10:44 am

Hi Everyone,

I was working on some alphabet flashcards yesterday to create flashcards based on an Alphabet Word Song. So I started off by "A for Apple B for..." and then I didn't know the rest!! LOL :giggle:

I was sorta confused on what words are exactly used. So I looked into it and I found so many variations. I thought I'll just come up with one myself... Hopefully it sounds about right...

Everybody sing with me, everybody learn the ABC's. Sing with me and clap your hands it's time to do the ABC dance!!

A for Apple and
B for Boy
C for Cat and
D for Dog
E for Elephant and
F for Fish
G for Goat... there is more to this
H for House and
I for Igloo
J for Jam and
K for King
L for Lion ... and still more to do
M for Monkey and
N for Nose
O for Orange and
P for Penguin
Q for Queen and
R for Rabbit
S for Snake and
T for Tomato
U for Umbrella and
V for Violin ... we are nearly at the end lets move
W for Watch and
X for Xylophone
Y for Yellow and
Z for Zebra

Everybody sing with me. Thats the words to the ABC's.

As you can see I'm no songwriter...LOL... but yeah I made up the above song. Please have a sing through it and let me know what you think...

Also, another question is, If you are trying to teach a child a song about "words to letters of the alphabet", what words will you use?

Is the one above correct?

Love to hear your comments,

Cheers :geek:,

Hi Kate,

I haven't head this song before... Would you be able to post up the rest of it for me? I'm just trying to figure out how to incorporate some printable ideas for an alphabet song.

Thanks for your input,

Cheers :geek:,

Hi LA I like your alphabet song.
This is what I sing-------
use flash cards or alphabet book or poster, then say the name of the picture .
eg- apple, apple, a,a,a,
baby, baby, baby buh. buh buh.
I'm Montessori trained and high on using phonic sounds.
The kids love this and has picked up the letter sounds a-z with ease.
Hope this is somewhat helpful.
Cheers,

Hi An Educator,

I really like your idea of incorporating phonic sounds. I think it's important for children to understand the sounds of letters as well because they will begin to use this for emergent reading skills. Since, you are Montessori trained when teaching the alphabet are there specific words that you have to use for each letter?

Hi LA,
Yes, I use words that have the correct phonetic sound to the letter. For example
if it's letter g- I do not say grapes as gr makes a double sound.
another eample is for letter b- it will be ball, bat and not bee.
Hope this makes sense.
BTW, I am a great FAN of your awesome web site and have introduced many of my mates. I owe you a cofee big time, will oranise it soon.

BTW LA, your alphabet song words are great, apart from snake. As the letter S and N together makes SN sound. For letter f, I would prefer fan,

Hi Again An Educator,

Thanks for your comments! I really appreciate it!

Thanks for the getting back to me regarding the words of my alphabet song. So instead of using snake for S, I can probably change that to sun and I'll take your advice and change fish to fan.

It's great to get some feedback.
