CHCECE017 - Visual Symbols To Represent Family

Scenario: belonging
The educators have worked with the children and their parents to make a visual symbol to represent their family which is displayed in the room

Question: how has this experience supported the sense of community within the service?

Answer: it helps the children feel as though they belong and that their home life/ daycare life is not that far apart ?
I am confused about this one, help please!!

Scenario: noticing difference
In group time, Naomi the educator and the children were discussing the visual symbols that each of the children had brought in to represent their family. Sally (3 years 8 months) notices that Jason's symbol has his two mums on it. raoul (4 years 2 months) laughs and says 'you can't have two mums'.

Question: what ethical issues have raouls comments raised?
Some parents may not want their children learning about 'same sex couples' at such a young age??

Question: what opportunities could you provide for the children to investigate theses ethical issues?
No idea please help!!!

For Q1) this may help:

Children Achieving Outcomes

For Q2) families are diverse from having same-sex families, to having families with different cultures and religions. Children need to be accepting of differences and similarities in families. To investigate ethical issues you could have group discussions on different types of families etc.
