CHCECE007 - Scenario: Family From Italy

Post by Moo10 » Tue Oct 04, 2016 5:31 pm

Two children have recently immigrated to Australia from Italy with their family. They have just been enrolled with the service provider where you are employed. The children start attendance next week. The parents speak a little English; however, the children do not yet speak any English. How can you accommodate the new children and ensure that they have a smooth transition into the care situation?

So far i have: i would maybe contact a multilingual community group to see what services they may be able to assist with. Get familiarised with their culture and be respectful. Also make some flash cards with some italian words on the flash cards as well as english words.

Yes, you could also use a phrase book or English to Italian dictionary (Italian is a fairly simple language and the letters are the same in English, so you just say it as you read it)...

Hope this helps!
