CHCECE001- Scenario: Jodie - Racist Remarks About Children

Post by PaigeBradley » Wed May 25, 2016 3:11 pm

I have no resourses or information for this senario and im rather confused. Can anyone help ith some information or tips :) Thank you!

Scenario
You have just started your new job in a school aged education and care service – after-school care program. You are very excited. You have noticed that there are a great number of children from diverse cultural backgrounds including Aboriginal, Tongan and Sudanese children. You have noticed that one of the workers Jodie is very dominant in the centre and outspoken and she often makes racist inappropriate remarks about people from other racial and cultural backgrounds. In addition you can see that she is cranky about clothing, food and family pick up arrangements that are different from some of the practices of European background children. You feel sick on the stomach as the Director doesn’t seem to care or take any interest in what is happening and you can see that it is alienating the families and that the children also feel second rate.

11(a). Name three things you can do to help these ineffective and inappropriate communication strategies be remodelled WITHOUT gossip or dobbing!

11(b). You have asked the Director if you could design a questionnaire for families of various cultural and racial backgrounds to find out about their needs and how the centre can support their children and their access to the centre. Write down three questions for your questionnaire that you feel will help them have more control of their experience with the childcare service.

11(c). What resources in particular can you identify and utilise in this scenario for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to ensure effective partnerships between them and the service?

11(d). How could a mutual mentoring arrangement assist with positive interaction in the child care service?

11(e). You ask your Director whether the whole team could review the findings from the questionnaire you have designed and given out to all the families in the centre. She agrees. After the feedback you design two questions to get the team to reflect on their actions and events to date and personal attitudes with a view to making positive change. What two questions will you use?
