Hi everyone ,

Im stuck on question 2) RESPECTING DIFFERENCES

Using point form , explain the importance of an anti-bias approach to a colleague who makes the following comment:
"I know why why we have to make such a big issue about diversity,we dont even have children here from a different culture or children with disabilities".

It is important to respect differences and appreciating diversity because we live in a multicultural country in is important to teach the children differences so that in life they learn to respect other peoples differences and respect different cultures, it is important
To learn
• Learn about children back grounds where they come from and their customs etc.
• You can celebrate thing forms other countries and cultures and include families
• Have experiences in the class room from other cultures e.g. making sushi lamingtons and cheeses, and celebrating Naidoc week and celebrating other cultures have a day where everyone comes dressed from the country of origin or even dressed as any cultural dress just for fun.
• If the center provides morning lunch and afternoon tea then they should change the menus up every week so the children get to have a try of all different countries foods and cultural foods.
• This teaches children they we are all different and there is nothing wrong with that , not just backgrounds , children also need to understand that everyone looks different for instance “why is Jenny wearing glasses for she looks ugly”. Children need to be taught that everyone looks different and that’s ok because we are all different.
• The college says that why do we have to make such a big deal when they are no child from another background and none with disabilities, well the fact is in life these children will come across people from different cultural backgrounds wearing different clothes and people that cannot walk and are disabled in a wheel chairs and children that are autistic and don’t communicate they need to understand they its not nice to tease other people about looking different and we all look different for a reason.
• You can ask children they speak another language to say hello to the class in another language

all i could really think of not sure if its the answer they are looking for though..

Excellent answer Nicky,

It might also be helpful to refer the colleague to the centre/colleges anti-bias/discrimination policy.
Other than that point (Unless anyone else can think of anything to add) you have done an excellent job of answering the question.
