It is during these years that a child's brain is most sensitive to the influences of the external environment. Trauma can also affect the child’s development by leading to separation anxiety and also being unstable. Some other life experiences that can interrupt appropriate childhood activities could be when parents’ divorce, or when a family pet dies this can also hinder a child’s development as it can affect their behaviour. Long-term impacts of poor early childhood development could also lead to destructive behaviour and also behind their peers.

Some of the indicators that a child may display of social, emotional and psychological difficulties can be that the child is withdrawn and not wanting to participate in activities or games and would prefer to be alone.
