1)What elements of their approaches to children's development do you recognize in present day childcare?

Can anyone suggest me what to write in that? Educators strategies to enhance the children's cognitive skills or something else?

So for both these question you will need to research both theorists. Once you have an idea on what each of them are about then you can relate it to present day child care.For e.g. Thorndike was one of the first pioneers of active learning, letting children learn for themselves rather than teaching them directly.
